In these dangerous times we live in, how can performance art rise above it all and allow us to think in new and creative ways, not only as a means of escape, but as a call to action? To address this research question, the Zero Gravity International Performance Art SUMMIT brought together thirty international performance artists from Argentina, Canada, Cuba, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Italy, United Kingdom and United States for a ten-day visual performance event which included a diverse array of gallery and site-specific performances, artist talks, panels, a ‘Long Table’ discussion and an artistic research workshop intensive in Edmonton (May 10-19, 2019).

The Zero Gravity International Performance Art SUMMIT took place in two parts:

Zero Gravity Performance Art WORKSHOP (May 10 – 16, 2020): Participants in this week-long artistic research workshop intensive, co-facilitated by Beau Coleman (CA), Dagmar I. Glausnitzer-Smith (DE), Francesco Kiais (IT-GR), PASHIAS (CY) and Alexandra Zierle (DE-UK), expanded their artistic practice through exposure to the working processes of five internationally-established performance artists, solo and group exercises, one-to-one mentoring and the development of original solo performance art works which were exhibited to the public on the first day of the Zero Gravity International Performance Art Festival.

Zero Gravity International Performance Art FESTIVAL (May 16 – 19, 2019): What do performance artists have to say about the ‘gravity’ of the world? The SUMMIT ’s visual performance festival addressed this question by bringing together a diverse array of international and Canadian performance artists for four days of gallery and site-specific performances, artists talks, panels, and a performative ‘Long Table’ discussion.
